My mum didn’t have this challenge, but raising two teenagers with no food or electricity, with grenades falling on the city, is another kind of fight. We heard first reports of cities being taken by the army and war starting, but we thought, “No, no, no, this will finish in two to three days because people cannot be so stupid.” And this is the feeling I was looking to put in the film: these were people who didn’t expect war, and they had normal lives, celebrating and having fun.
